Why Every Day Can Be “Independence Day” at a Senior Living Community

In the wake of hotdogs, fireworks and family time over the 4th of July, we started thinking about “independence” and what it means…especially to seniors who are starting to think about what’s next for them as they age.

One of the biggest worries we hear when we’re talking to potential residents is the loss of independence. Many seniors are worried that moving into a community means giving up control and losing the independence they so fiercely want.

Maybe you’re in this situation yourself. If so, we’re ready to blow your mind…and blow away those misconceptions once and for all. Here’s the deal. Moving to a retirement community like Melrose Meadows doesn’t mean giving up your independence. In fact, you may find that you gain even more independence than what you’re experiencing now!

Whaaaaaaaaaa? Surprised? Let us count the ways…

  1. It frees you up from the burdens of homeownership. No longer do you have to worry about shoveling snow, pulling weeds or repairing all the little (and big) things that come with owning a house. You don’t even have to worry about cleaning or doing laundry! All that stuff gets taken care of for you, freeing up your schedule so you can do the things you want to do, not the things you have to do. (Really, who enjoys replacing a water heater? Not us.)

  2. It makes your life easier by giving you the extra help you may need. This is an especially important point for our assisted living residents. Sure, you’ll get the extra help you need…and we don’t see how that’s anything but a positive. Instead of taking forever to do the tasks of daily life, you have helping hands who make it fast and easy…and give you the support you need to live as independently as possible.

  3. It gets you out and about. As we get older, sometimes driving can become difficult or stressful, especially at night. That means that some folks can go days without leaving their homes. Guess what? We’re here to make you mobile. A senior living community has scheduled transportation to chauffeur you to wherever you want to go. Attending your great-granddaughter’s dance recital? Not a problem! Feel like taking your grandson to the park? Hop on board! Wherever you want to go, all you have to do is let the driver know…and you can just sit back and enjoy the ride.

  4. It gives you and your family peace of mind. Worrying about your safety and security doesn’t make for a very good quality of life. In fact, it can keep you from doing things you want to do because you may not want to risk the potential downfalls. At a senior living community like Melrose Meadows, though, you can relax knowing that help is available 24/7 and you’re as snug as a bug in a rug.

Independence is a huge deal. It’s one of the basic tenants of our country, for heaven’s sake! So don’t be worried about having to relinquish control or independence as you age. Senior living communities aren’t places you go to be shut away…in fact, it’s kind of like being permanently “on vacation!” Just imagine…all the boring stuff and obligations being take care of, leaving you free for all the fun things that life has to offer. Talk about independence!
